I honestly would prefer a 360 degree camera in the event I get pulled over for something silly and it ends up becoming a bigger deal. Just for a peace of mind.

That G1W-C looks good but I would need two of them :P

Ordered the same one for my wife's new car last week! We went with the G1W-C to avoid the battery issue.

Im saying if you only got 1 camera that records only the front, you SHOULD park the rear end of your car towards the wall. That way the rear end of your car Cannot be hit (So you dont need vision or dashcam for it), only your front can get hit if it if does, you will have it recorded.

I got a picture. If you park your car backwards. There's only two scenarios how a hit and run would occur. (Logically speaking).

Blue car takes GREEN path and hits a different random car. That car tanked the blow for you. Your car is safe. #worth.

Blue car takes BROWN path. Hit yours car where your dashcam records it. Safe.

Use a 0801 in my 2016 370z, small and can hardly see it. Been using dash cams for years in all my cars, there is quite a difference from the $30 ones and $300 ones.

SwissCheese 05-16-2015 08:17 AM

Here's a video from my drive home from work yesterday that I pulled off my G1W (I was driving with the windows down). At about 3:00, you can see a truck pull out in front of me and then cut me off.

darkphantom 05-17-2015 08:29 PM

Okay, so here's a question...G1W for the front...does it record while the car is parked? over night?

Also, what about interior-wise?

madwi 05-17-2015 08:36 PM

I dont know if it is a deal or not but newegg has the G1's on sale for $45.
Sold Out.

darkphantom 05-17-2015 09:17 PM

madwi 05-17-2015 10:43 PM

I just got this A118C (capacitor version) for about $80 online. Its pretty small but still has a screen where I can see the field of view and get a quick play back. I like it a little better than the G1 because of how it mounts (more secure) and size (smaller footprint). Still super easy to use/set up and looks like this by my Valentine 1:

Use the original 0801 in my Z, works great and has very small footprint.

I got one, I keep mine mounted on the rear window facing forward. Can see everything out the dash and my speedometer. Got pulled over for "speeding" one time when I wasn't, don't want to go through that again.

Do you have any footage for that? I want to see how that mount records in terms of outside visibility.

Zbrah 05-18-2015 04:37 PM

You can see a detailed review on youtube. Look for user name Techmoan or just go to his website Techmoan.com for reviews and footage of different dash cams.

So from all the reading and researching, it looks like there isn't really anything out there for a "motion detect" camera.

There are some with Sensors to detect impact then record, but nothing that will record on movement, plus I guess it is a drain on batteries.

I just want to look for something that will capture if I get rear ended in a parking lot or something when I am not around. I guess some sort of a security cam :-/

Are you sure? There Are threads I found google searching about g1w motion detection recording while car is parked.

oldschool350z 05-19-2015 09:03 PM

I use a go pro as a dash cam.

Yea, I think I saw a motion detection feature on my G1W when I was messing around with it, but I've never used it. I figured it would just end up draining the battery.

Knio 05-20-2015 12:47 AM

I have this: http://www.amazon.com/Angle-Mobius-A.../dp/B00GPXYVQU

Great quality camera that is small and cheap (1080p at 18MB/s, as good quality as a GoPro3)

hardwired into mirror, turns on with car, turns off 30s after car, 32GB card fits about 4hrs of looping video with my settings.

It has some motion detect feature, but I've never tried it

FireDan50 05-20-2015 06:24 AM

I used the motion detect on the G1W and it works....but if you're in a busy parking lot it'll record everything and either memory card or battery will die if you're not hard wired.

darkphantom 05-20-2015 08:20 AM

what's the max memory capacity? I want to throw a 64gb or 128gb SD card into this thing so I don't have to worry but I only see it supporting 32gb?

FireDan50 05-20-2015 08:39 AM

I've only been using 32GB cards and it seems okay because of the loop/overwrite operation. I only keep footage that I want like crap in the road, stupid people, crazy drivers and such so far....I'm making a compilation video of the idiots on the road and crazy crap I see laying in the middle of the road. Funniest clip so far is of a rock being flung by a truck going in the opposite direction of me in a construction zone and hitting my windshield.....much cursing.

I would not be laughing if that happened to me. :eekdance:

I guess for the first one, I'll pull the trigger on a G1W-C and see how that fares.

There was this one, though that can double up as a backup cam :P You have a small LCD

Ordered a G1W-C with the hardwire kit...

US Capacitor G1W C Car Dash CAMERANT96650 Chip AR0330 Lens Mirro Mount Hard Wire | eBay

Anyone got a DIY to hard-wire this guy? If not...i'll figure it out and do a DIY :P

SwissCheese 05-20-2015 09:54 PM

Does anybody know how long it would take for one of these dash cams (G1W for example) to drain the car battery (if running constantly)?

Oh, and FYI for potential G1W owners, the battery in this camera is worthless. I have mine plugged in via the AC adapter in the arm-rest console, and it only lasts for about 10 seconds after the car is shut off.

The G1W-C will obviously not run on battery, but if you do decide to plug it into the AC (not hard-wired), it will turn off after 3 seconds once you turn the car off. The hard-wire solution should keep it running afterwards if you have motion detect on or whatever the setting is.

Not sure about the power draw when the car is off...I'd like to know that too :ugh2:

Also: https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/thread...d-others.5348/

It can take other firmware! :o

G1W: 5V 1.5A

I couldn't find the Z's specifications, but some aftermarket batteries are rated at ~100 mins reserve capacity @ 12V 25A, so:

(100m * 12V * 25A) / (5V * 1.5A) = 4000minutes = 67hrs = 2.5days approximately

fredskis 07-13-2015 05:00 AM

Anyone know where to tap a constant 12V power source when the car is off? I checked under the glovebox and the few 12V sources I found seemed to fluctuate, especially under load :(

I have the following dashcam in my 370Z:
SGZC12SG – PRO SERIES CAMERA | Street Guardian

Currently using the following 256GB SD card:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00

Recently purchased this to safely run the camera "always on":

I'm in Australia so have a RHD Z. Oh yeah, anyone know how to take the glove box out too? I unscrewed one of the screws and the clip-on nut thing it screws into fell into the footwell so now I can't put it back in -_-

Holy crap that's a big memory card! Does that camera not have away of automatically erasing old videos from the card?

It does but the point is that now I can store days of high-def footage which is perfect since I wanted to wire it to record non-stop.

Anyway, I found where to tap into it. I found the link to a wiring diagram somewhere (think on this forum even?). If anyone wants it, PM me, I've saved it on my OneDrive for perperuity.

Lets start a thread similar to the best/worst parking jobs where folks post clips of various stupidity captured with a dash cam.

Tried searching, couldn't find one... Started this: http://www.the370z.com/lounge-off-to...cam-clips.html

OBDII port under steering wheel

Auto-dimming mirror pin 1

Should be one on the head unit too, I can look it up if you need

They will all droop below 10V for a few seconds when cranking the engine, but otherwise should be stable.
