OBD Port Cover/Plug??

What is that thing that's plugged into the OBD 2 port under the dash?? Is it just a dust cover OR does it actually pull info for something? I ask

What is that thing that's plugged into the OBD 2 port under the dash?? Is it just a dust cover OR does it actually pull info for something?

I ask cuz I wanna use a Scanguage2 to get coolant info
