Never realized it's there either on my car(s) until I looked. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the WRX I drive now. Manufacturers have been quietly putting this little device on their cars recently to keep noobs and lead footed enthusiasts from destroying their fragile modern manuals prematurely. Especially with 6 speed manuals and the way the cogs are spaced so much closer together and packed tighter with weaker and lighter materials to save weight.
