You should not have to remove that piece since the OE Filter still screws on. You will basically be daisy-chaining two oil coolers together. If you have this version of the 370z, I might consider NOT getting thermostatic sandwich plate adapter since the engine coolant will help raise the temperature.

Nissan has used this style oil cooler before. I am really shocked that they did not keep it on the VQ37VHR engine. I just looked in the Nissan parts catalog and the VQ35HR does not even have this cooler. Only the VQ35DE has it.
