Yes, it will work as I did this before upgrading my wheels. However, there will be some of the "bubble" effect since the tire is obviously wider than the wheel. It's not bad looking but it is noticeable.

I kept the 18 size when I bought new wheels but just increased the width to Front 9" and Rear 10". The tires fit perfect.
