Agreed. You have to think of the big picture.

Even though you are going past peak power you still have more power than you would have in the next gear especially once you take the new gear ratio into effect.

Think of it this way after taking multipliers into account
1st: 100% power
2nd: 60% power
3rd: 43% power
4th: 33% power
5th: 26% power
6th: 20% power

There's obviously more to it than that but it's gives you an idea.
