i did my homelink a while ago and was a very simple install. no need to remove the a-pillar cover. just get a plastic squeegee and push the cord into the gap and around into the fuse box. i did pull the seal around the door opening temporarily.

i didnt unplug the battery either when i did the install. actually, i rarely remove the battery wire ground these days unless im working on the airbag.
