The base model brakes will stop you just fine on the street, they are essentially same brakes that were in my G35S which I gave quite a beating at the auto-cross. The bigger brakes give you more capacity for repeated high-speed stopping such as at a HPDE track day. Although the brakes seem kind of pointless given that you are going to overheat in two laps anyway

I guess it depends on your intentions with the car. For less than $3000 the sport package seems a good deal. Plus as a bonus you get the SRM which is a cool feature.
