The magnet is typically additionally secured with an anaerobic adhesive that can withstand heat. I've used many a magnetic drain plug, and ones not as nice as the one you purchased, and none have failed and released the magnet. I've used ones the protrude as much as yours and a bit more. Use and enjoy it!
