well it's only been 40 minutes . You may have to wait a little. Until the big (audio) guys chime in, I'll put my in.

But when Matt (bigaudiofanat) installed my rear view cam, we didn't tap into ANY reverse wire. If I recall correctly, power was feed from the red accessory line. My headunit has button where I can push to activate the camera manually ANY TIME while driving (of course it's auto detected as soon as I put into reverse as well).

What I am trying to say is camera should be connected via power accessory line but you should control via Headunit (not taillights or whatnot)
