How does that work, exactly? Never take it in for aftermarket? Maintenance? Valet?

My son is a service tech. Sometimes, the tech just has to drive the car.

It was driven twice the speed limit in he rain and hydroplane then crashed far away from there shop. There was no need for that kind of test thy should have called me and let me drive it

It's one thing to take it for a quick test drive to make sure everything is okay, but there's no excuse for taking it for a joy-ride like that.

You can see they lost it and it either swapped ends, or they tagged a curb really heard. The upper looks like a guard-rail deal. Bad mojo brother, so sorry for your loss. You should get twice book for that type of stuff. I had it happen once with a GTS Celica and for being without a car, anxiety etc etc. I got 28k with a KBB of 13.2.

Stay strong and look forward to that Cayman you can now afford. :)

i installed my own mods and do my own maintenance. for mandatory valet i take a pic of the mileage, tip them and make sure the car stays out in the front. i'm also very physically intimidating so they probably would fear for their life if anything would happen to my car. all of this is easy. this guy lost his baby over a simple exhaust install. not cool

Not practical advice for the vast majority of car owners.

All car owners maybe. For just Z owners it might be different. I never did any work on my vehicles before purchasing the Z, but now I do it all. I even dropped the transmission in my garage with a little help.

One thing I've found that seems to work pretty well is telling the shop that driving the car off the lot is strictly forbidden without first calling me to get authorization. I take a picture of the mileage before I drop it off, and I make sure they know I'm going to raise hell if something is amiss when I pick it up. Anyone can do this.

You can do the same thing with valet. Or just get a tune and switch over to valet mode (can't rev over 2500 RPMs or go faster than 35 mph).

Sorry if my story had gaps I've been really upset. Here is the full story from what I know to date. I've just returned from Afghanistan my car had been in a strange unit while I've been deployed. When I found time to search the internet I bought a factory GPS system from a forum member and bought a Armytrix exhaust from the retailor. All boxes were delivered prior to my returning home. I moved into my new house. I needed the room in the garage so I unpacked everything and put it in my daily driver and dropped my car off to have it installed. I also bought a cai for my car. I bought this car two years ago and since then have deployed and or have been in schools training. I have put 3000 miles on the car since I bough it. It has always sat in a garage with a car cover I washed it every weekend and kept it super clean. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/ygy7a5e9.jpg this is the car sitting In the storage unit. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/nuzy4uhu.jpg this is the car the day of the install. The foreman called said some parts for the exhaust were missing by they used my old gaskets and replaced them missing parts. He said he would call after everything was complete. When I was called I was super excited. 3 or 4 hours went by. Before I was called, the conversation went. Your car is ready but there is a problem. The car was crashed the damage was just to the rear end. How much damage just a dent on the rear end. They offered to fix my car fully. When I got there I saw a different story about how much damage there was. I spoke with the vp of the company who insisted on fixing my car. I told them no you totaled my precious car that was 1 of 1000. His was sunk when he realized this wasn't an every day Z. This one is more rare than all the nismos drivin around. The police report will be ready today. I will update what the police report says.

Man, I'm really sorry for you brother...
I really thank you for your service and if you ever need anything, give me a shout

Police report says 50 in a 35 in rain illegally changed lanes. Witness says everything. Says the operator was taking my car for a joy ride.

Fuck... Sorry... At least there were witnesses who stuck around...

Time to lawyer up brother

My40thZ 08-11-2014 11:40 AM

He attempted to pas a car by going into the on coming traffic lane and speeding pass them.

tturbo370z 08-11-2014 12:12 PM

 Wow I am truelly sorry to see this bro. I hope it all works out for you in the end. This is the main reason I am scared to take my car to the bodyshop and get it painted. It only takes one shop retard and my 800hp car to equal me totally screwed beyond what insurance will cover and I'm insured as high as I can go with $25k extra insurance. This just proves I'm not paranoid as everyone tells me I am. Good luck op

Has the shop made any statement to you, about buying you a new car or anything? Or even why they were out driving your car at all.
