you were bang on, it is a problem with the vvt this is a email i got from the builders shop.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the enquiry mate.

This is a great car and has had a huge amount of time and money spent on it however there is an issue with the engine that does need immediate attention.

There is a problem with the variable valve timing on the drivers side which throws an engine code up whilst driving and we have narrowed it down to an oil pressure/feed problem in the cylinder head. We have managed to test the pressure at the block and the heads and found a variance.

We believe there may be an internal leak or a blockage (these engines have small filters that sit in the heads) that may be the cause but the current owner did not want to spend the money to remove the engine from the car and take off the cylinder heads to inspect/carry out repairs.

Please be aware that if you buy this car you'd be needing to sort this issue out ASAP.
