It's not about the semantics. You can't break it down into 'one specific topic is ok" and "another specific topic is not ok'. That's how you break down communication into gibberish. It's just not feasible to have rules that cover every single real world scenario.

You are on a car forum. Said car forum is privately owned and operated. This means they can set whatever policies they want. And when I see the high rate at which online interactions across multiple social media platforms quickly devolve into a toilet bowl spiral, I don't blame them for having a blanket policy to prohibit the discussion of politics - it gives them a stronger grip to keep things from getting out of control. Frankly, I can't believe how passionate you guys are in your quest to share your political thoughts with a car forum lol (additional thoughts on that below).

And let's get real. This forum isn't moderated anymore. It takes quite a bit for Trips to come in and say anything. But that dumb political discussion the other day got a lot dumber real quick. On both sides. The forum rule is intended to prevent idiotic back and forths like that. Obviously there are plenty of conversations that are civil and do not bring about the wrath of Trips despite their violation of the rules. Be smart about it and there won't be any problems.

I'd rather just see more pictures of dogs lol

Huh? Apathy? Where did I say ignore the problem? In fact, I commented exactly the opposite as quoted below. Your statement is pretty bold considering it's ignorance from my perspective

I will repeat again... this is a car forum. It was not started as or intended to be a place for political conversations. I sure as hell am not getting information for my political choices from a car forum. It is simply inappropriate on so many levels. So the owner and operator of the forum made a choice to exclude that topic of conversation from this forum. That's their right and you can choose to respect the rules or not.

And don't rail at me like I'm against having the conversation. Civil discourse is an amazing and powerful societal tool that is so rarely wielded these days. It should be welcome in all forms on all mediums. Unfortunately, some people cannot be civil about it, and so, in this particular instance, the owner has made the (IMO smart) choice not to allow the use of this forum for political conversations.

Since the forum has such little moderation these days, there is plenty of freedom to toe the line. But instead of escalating the situation by getting defensive because someone called you out for talking politics, perhaps a more appropriate response would be to recognize that further discussion in a less-than-civil manner violates the spirit of the forum rules and toning it down slightly or abandoning the conversation altogether would be a more respectful approach to the rules and your fellow forum members.

Of course, I shouldn't be one to talk. I report all of the Asians on here daily. Just for being Asian because I'm jealous
Well said Jar.
