You want perfection; wait until the final model year to buy.
I have a good friend who's dad has stuck to that principle on nearly every vehicle he's ever bought. He waits until the final year of production for a car or truck, just before the new model is about to be released, and then he buys the final model year for the outgoing model, with all the options and bells and whistles. Seems to have served him quite well over the years, and all of his vehicles are always in tip-top shape.
