I just couldn't bring myself to do it. You might be right, but even with a very thin screwdriver, I couldn't get any amount of separation without hearing it crinkle like it was about to break. I wasn't willing to push any harder. I tried many different tools. Not sure if the previous owner could have added a different headliner somehow, but I had a friend look at it too and he couldn't see how it was possible to move it back.

I ended up using some slicone to adhere the wires in place, but out of sight at normal viewing angle.
