Free revs would have to be a clutch problem..specifically no longer engaged. So csc not returning, diaphram spring damaged, worn out disc, possibly broken input, output or drive shaft right on back to differential and rear axles. So I would check the complete driveline. Not starting would be a separate issue typically ignition or fuel but a broken timing chain would do it as well. I hate to say t but it sounds rather serious.
