Yep..mine is at the driver side door. Almost sounds like the glass is loose or something but it's not. It's been driving me crazy for about 3 mos now. It does is sporadically and when I try to see what it is, it goes away or I really can't find it. I have not been able to recreate it for the service manager at the dealership. I also have an annoying squeak coming from the back somewhere. It only does that one when I go through rough patch of road.

I have a problem with my doors too, they just don't thud like a well built car. I want my doors to sound tuff and sturdy like a Mazda Miaitas

I have the same problem. Driver's door. Metallic rattling sound. Definitely has to do with the glass. I can recreate it if I hit the inside of the door, when the door is closed, with my hand, especially if I hit it towards the back and top portion of the inside of the door.

Did you ever get this resolved?

Mine does the same thing had every plastic panel in the hatch replaced and it is still there. The other day took the car apart and think I found it. The center console where it meets with the back I folded a piece of paper up and wedged it in there and I have not heard it since. Going to contact my dealer about it for a fix soon.

k.alexander 11-21-2010 03:12 PM

I'm at 30k. I've had the door inside plastic off, and the sound was still there, it's coming from the glass and the metal frame of the door (outside shell and inside shell). It's definitely the sound of glass vibrating or bumping against the door frame. Hmm.

370zproject 11-21-2010 10:24 PM

tsb?

omg,,i have the same problem as u do,,,rattling noise,,
i can recreate like u,,,its really annoying,,
i went to dealership and they took door apart and readjusted but still making
noise,,,anyone know how to take door panel apart??,,,:icon14:

k.alexander 11-24-2010 08:34 AM

Taking the inside door paneling is pretty easy. Next to the inside door handle (on top near mirror), pop out the triangular looking plastic piece, there will be one bolt under that. Under the door handle (middle of the door) right above the map pocket, there is a plastic piece, pop that out, and there are two bolts there. Pop out the piece that holds all the window/door lock switches, disconnect it. Then just pull the entire inside of the door off, it's on clips, supper easy to do, grab at the corner near the rear view mirrors and just pull the entire thing off, should come off right away. Having done it a few times, I can probably take the door apart in like 2 minutes now.

Problem is that the sound is coming from inside the door, between the outer and inner metal shells of the door (and not so much/at all) from the inside door trim. You could take the inside shell off, but that seems like a pain, because then you also have to unmount the power window motor.

did anyone ever figure out what the glass-like noise from the driver's side door was?

370zproject 03-02-2011 02:26 AM

no clue i just turn up my stero

Jme370 03-02-2011 10:33 AM

after driving a bit today, i hear a metal clinging sound coming from somewhere around the instrument cluster. gonna have the dealer check it out but pretty sure they "wont be able to replicate it"

370Zapper 06-24-2011 11:19 AM

Still nothing on this? I am one of the lucky few that also has this rattle.

seande 12-22-2011 04:01 PM

This developed for me about a month ago. Would love to hear if anyone took the door apart and found the actual cause. Driving me crazy as well...

k.alexander 12-22-2011 04:12 PM

I unfortunately never did figure it out. :(

squeak on bumps

About a month ago I noticed a squeak sound whenever I go over bumps. Its almost like a plastic on plastic squeak. I can not for the life of me locate the origin of the noise. To me it sounds like its coming from the passenger door. When I asked my girlfriend to listen for it, she said it sounds like its coming from the drivers side... It's driving me NUTS! I'm not even bothering with taking it to the dealer yet, just trying to find out WTF it is!!! If I locate mine I will be sure to post!

SouthArk370Z 12-24-2011 06:23 AM

. I took my 2009 to the dealer with the same problem. They fixed it under warranty.

What was it and how did they fix it?

. IIRC, some rollers for the window mechanism were too loose and had to be shimmed/adjusted. They fixed it under warranty, so I didn't ask a lot of questions. Took about 1.5-2 hours.

bjblackout 12-26-2011 10:30 AM

My drivers side door makes a noise when going over bumps. I know if I take it to the stealership they will say they don't hear it because they do not take the time to hear things. I will just wait for it to get worse so it happens more frequently!!

. Your warranty is with Nissan, not the dealership. Go to a more cooperative dealer.

Kinda sounds like a buzzing type of rattle?

ZForce 12-08-2012 01:10 AM

Both of mine and the bros Z experienced this ...I say this in the past tense format ...fixed now.

2 fixes for the noise - read on

Sorry I thought the rest of my post made it thru cyberspace, apparently not.

The issue is with the two guides that holds the window in the door frame. One guide has a plastic washer, the other does not. It's this guide as the noise ONLY occurs when the window is rolled up. One thought for those with out of warranty cars it to find a small rubber washer for both and grease it up.

For both mine and the bros 2009 models with extended warranties (btw: they have paid for themselves over and over again, so IMO it's worth the extra $$ and buy it on your next new Z purchase).

Nissan has updated the window regulator part number and this fixed the bros Z, been driving around for two months now and no more noise. My regulator was also replaced.

Mine was different story, and note this issue is weather related, just like the rear hatch spring issue. When the weather changes to hot or cold it could rear its ugly head or will not. Mine was still making noise....so Nissan wanted to test a theory and replace ALL of the rubber weather stripping around the entire drivers door. Have the car back since Friday and drove at city street speed and highway speed and ITS GONE NOW.

Hope this helps !

Cheers,
Curtis :tiphat:

Yep. That's exactly what it sounds like. I never bothered to get it fixed and it doesn't do it as often as it used to. But, when it does happen, I just turn the stereo up. ;)

ZForce 12-10-2012 11:20 PM

^ Just give it a whack with your elbow....it will go away after Sammy Hagar.
