No, the fluid does not have to be replaced when the CSC needs replacing. If the $150 includes fluid, then I guess that's not an unreasonable shop price. I just don't see any reason paying someone because it is super easy to DIY. It costs me ~$60 in Redline gear oil, a $7 reusable pump, $1.50 for a couple of washers/gaskets for the drain/fill plugs, and 10 min to drain and refill the fluid.

Ok thanks, I'll pass on that service through them. It's at about 37k miles, anything else recommend? I've got 1 at cost service available

I change out my transmission and vlsd fluids every 25-30K miles. Too cheap and easy not to do it IMNSHO.

Make sure they change out the master cylinder when the do the CSC. If not, don't be surprised when you're back in the shop with a soft or even completely limp clutch pedal.

What correlation does the master cylinder have with the CSC? I just want to be able to justify asking them to do that as well

The CMC is attached to the clutch pedal. When you push the clutch pedal down, the piston in the CMC is pushed in also, disengaging the clutch. When you let go of the clutch pedal, the CSC causes the pedal to spring back up. It really is a simple hydraulic system.

However, why Nissan decided to put the CSC inside the transmission housing is beyond me. Normally it's easily accessible from the outside. That being said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The CMC isn't known to be trouble prone, like the junky CSC.

That statement seems counter to a lot of people here's experiences. In fact, isn't the Zspeed's CSC warranty voided if you don't use a new master?

I, too, would go ahead and change the trans fluid. Whether AT or MT, I like to change mine at 20-30k miles to get rid of any break-in junk. After that, I'll go 50-60k between changes (which, with modern lubes, is probably more often than necessary).

Changing the fluid on an MT is a pretty easy job - any weekend mechanic should be able to do it in a hour or so. Procedure is in FSM or see one of the DIYs on this site.

I don't have any experience with VLSDs but assume the same do-the-first-one-early-to-flush-the-break-in-junk principle would apply.

Just drain and fill...

you can just buy the trans fluid and have them do it along with your next motor oil change. The labor will probably be around $20 additional since your car will be on the rack already.

Just a thought.

Yes it is ... I've replaced mine 4 times in 80K miles.

I usually order online - Amazon has decent prices and 2-day free shipping if you have Prime. But I've gone to a local speedshop before when I needed some Redline fluid on short notice. They were able to order it overnight (at no charge to me), so I could pick up at their shop the next day.

Default VLSD fluid changes?

Wait a minute.... Maybe I was misinformed, but on my '16 Nismo, I was told that the VLSD was a sealed, non-serviceable unit that basically wears out after 40-50K miles or so and becomes useless.

Can I change fluids in it on a regular basis and preserve its life a lot longer, then, after all?

My understanding is that if the CSC fails, clutch fluid is lost from the system and/or can become contaminated with debris from the failed CSC which can put a strain on the seals in the clutch master cylinder, possibly leading to failure of the master cylinder. As others have mentioned, it is generally recommended to change the MC if the CSC fails. Contact Joe at ZSpeed. He can offer a full explanation.
