I may be completely wrong, but after seeing the inside of a removed dashboard, I'm hoping that I'm right.
I had not to long ago did a whole dash removal to do this gauge swap and sadly I wish your way was possible but the air ducts are in the way of the screws, there's only three that hold our gauges to the dash, but the whole thing has to come out if you want to keep from vice gripping and shredding the oem gauges. it's not to bad with the factory service manual online I did it in about day and a half one to pull the dash and the rest to dremel and fit the gauges up properly, I was able to use the oem bracket to fasten the hats back on ill have to post up a thread and pictures of it soon.
