Default 2nd Lieutenant Mobile

In the Occupations thread I noticed a lot of Air Force and otherwise military people in here so this question goes to you.

It's pretty common for ROTC cadets to get the USAA personal loan and buy new cars before commissioning and I've heard jokes about the "2nd Lt Mobile." I'm interested in getting some honest answers on what other military personnel think about this. One of the LTs who graduated from my detachment came back and was talking about how enlisted personnel occasionally make snide remarks or chalk everything he does up to being an officer, "oh thats officer food" when he's eating lunch or "look at the fancy officer car, that's definitely out of my pay grade," etc.

I wonder not just what enlisted think, but other officers too. I could imagine Commanders thinking bad about you if they see you with a brand new sports car and they aren't a car person or have been more frugal with their money.

Any thought/comments/advice? All responses will be appreciated.
