If the oil was too low or if it was over filled you would then have to be worried about causing engine damage.

Has any work been performed on the car recently?

Maybe stop by the local auto parts store and have them run codes to see if there is a stored code.

Is the check engine light on?

You should check your oil when the oil is at operating and let the car sit for 15 minutes and the car is on level ground. Check and add accordingly.
