GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A woman attending a court-ordered class at the Kent County Courthouse Thursday was arrested after attempting to flee from police, witnesses tell 24 Hour News 8.

The woman, who court officials have identified as Jessica Lynn Cato, was reportedly attending a “decision-making” class on the courthouse’s second floor around 12:30 p.m. when police came in with a warrant for her arrest. Cato then ran out of the room, down a hallway and into a women’s restroom where she climbed into the ceiling, witnesses said.

At one point, witnesses saw Cato’s legs pop out of the ceiling and she almost fell to the floor. Police used ladders to locate her in the ceiling and arrested her about 10 minutes later.

Kent County Circuit Court Judge Mark Trusock’s office confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 that Cato was also scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday in a 2016 drug case. She previously pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams. That sentencing has been rescheduled for August.

Cato was lodged in the Kent County Jail on two active warrants, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department. She could face additional charges related to Thursday’s incident.
