Maybe that's not the official name for what I'm thinking of then...All I removed was a plastic piece that supplies airflow to the stock air boxes. Serves no other purpose.
Here's what the instructions note: "Silicone Hose will conform to profile of through hole, however removing material
from Composite Radiator Core Support is advised for optimal performance."
