Default Nismo rear wing and double sided tape

How important is the double sided tape on the Nismo rear wing?

I'm planning on taking mine off and making a spoiler for autox. The ultimate plan would be to drive to the event with the factory Nismo wing and then swap the Nismo wing out for the spoiler once I'm at the event. Obviously using new double sided tape all the time is crazy. Is it really needed or can I get away without it? What about just attaching a thin layer of foam to the Nismo wing that won't have adhesive to stick to the rear hatch?
