If I were closer...I would have inquired.

Maybe check with the State Patrol to see if it has been reported stolen, notify them that you are taking possession from person XXX, and applying for a new title? If it comes up dirty, turn it over to the State Patrol???

Maybe wort case you are out title fees that the owner maybe gladly to reimburse?

I know its a dead thread but hypothetically, anyone see any hitches with this approach?
