The sound is probably the same, just a the level is different (with non-res being the loudest and 18" being the quietest). Just depends of how loud you want to get.

18" will be louder then you stock Nismo, but not obnoxious loud. 18" is slightly below 80 decibels, which is the "legal" limit in a many places. I have 18". It is very livable on normal commute and is plenty noticeable when you step on it. People know when I pass them or about to.

No-res tends to have a touch of drone at higher rpm's.

Obviously 12" is somewhere in between.
