Default Does anyone use Zello for Club drive, tours, events?

I wasn't sure where to pose this one so I'll start here.

Does any out there use Zello (smartphone walkie talkie app) to communicate with other club members? During a club event, drive, or otherwise?

See the following link for more info. Http://zello.com

The reason I ask is because for the longest time we have used the FRS and GMRS radios to talk back and forth. Mainly on club excursions or drives. It is our experience that no matter how good the reception of those FRS style radios, the first maybe 5-6 cars are the only ones to reliably hear the broadcast from the lead car. The rest in line are in the dark about what's going on. Zello in most cases does not have that line of site limit. It is cell frequency driven. We as a club (Z Club of Texas) in Texas are trying to integrate Zello into our drive excursions for this purpose. Better range no guessing as to what was said on the low power FRS/GMRS radio.

I didn't even see a mention when I searched the forums, so I thought I'd start a post.

If you have tried Zello then I have some questions.
1. What did you do to integrate it into your car? Did you integrate it?

2. Did you use it on the Android or IOS platform? I use it on both.

3. Do you find it better or worse than the old FRS/GMRS radios?

To be sure some will like Zello and some not. Not everyone has a smartphone and will resist efforts to change. I'm betting that most probably do. If nothing else this post will get you thinking. We are still trying this new comm service out and hope for some feedback positive or otherwise.

in any case thanks for listening.
