Actually, the standard system comes with the
Valvetronic Muffler, Mid Pipe, Remote Control Kit and Dual Chrome Tips. It's a cat-back system by default. You can't buy the muffler by itself. Also, your actual prices are off by a few hundred, even with the Y-pipe it doesn't even come close to $3,000 MSRP. Is it still pricey? Yes, but the reality isn't as bad as you make it sound.
They do have two other options that make it pricier, adding a de-catted down pipe or one with cats on it, the latter can bump it up a bit over $4000 MSRP, but you're talking about 2 high performance catalytic converters and those aren't cheap no matter where you buy them from.
