The cop looked like an idiot swinging at a high school kid like that. Although, I can't say I would have been disappointed if he had connected one of those.
However, if I were a superior of that officer, I would definitely have something to say about keeping your cool under pressure. If the situation was serious enough for him to restrain the student like that, he should have been escorting him out of the classroom immediately or arresting him, and not succumbing to the peer pressure and trash talking going on.
Lastly, if you're going to take the kid on like that, it shouldn't have been much of a contest. If you get in the kid's face and he swings, then you just keep rushing him until he's back into a wall. He should have been able to overpower the kid without slugging him. Or just hockey fight style. Grab the back of the kid's shirt, pull it over his head, and go to town with body shots
