I'm currently in the market for a used Z in that same price range. From all of my research, that seems to be a very reasonable price. 3 owners in 18k does seem like a lot but I figured there are a lot of legit reasons to trade this car in such as having a baby.
I don't think you are being over cautious. If you are dropping 24k on a purchase, you want to make sure it's well worth it.
