With Nissan expected to preview the next-generation Z-car at next week's Tokyo motor show, it has slashed the price of its its current 370Z coupe and convertible.

The Japanese brand has announced a special summer incentive that sees prices reduced by $12,960 on the coupe models and $10,960 on the drop-top roadster.

Nissan says the deals are only available from now until December 31, 2013 to stimulate sales on the back of strong results for the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ in recent months, but with a new Z-car expected to arrive in 2014 it is likely the reduced prices will be retained into the new year.

The entry-level 370Z coupe with a six-speed manual transmission has been cut from $69,890 plus on-road costs to $56,930, but Nissan is also offering a national driveaway price of $59,990 for this model only.

The automatic coupe receives the similar $13k reduction, and now costs $59,930 while the convertible models cost $65,930 and $68,930 for the manual and automatic respectively.

The price reductions were expected after its sister brand, Infiniti, recently re-positioned the more luxurious G37 models closer to the 370Z. The two cars share the same underpinnings and are both powered by 3.7-litre naturally aspirated V6.
