OP, that masking method is standard, they get all the rash out and don't worry about overspray because they (should) use a tiny air brush
Thanks for the info, I wasn't really sure of the process. I called one body shop and they said they no longer repair wheels because they are unhappy with the results (I guess they contracted it out). They suggest to all their customers to go through their insurance company and get a new wheel. I thought that was pretty extreme, especially in very minor situations
