I mounted mine in the stock location so it's completely hidden. At first I had some of the same issues but adding some sound deadening to the doors helped a lot. I plan to do the hatch area soon too. I just don't want the mic just hanging out there. It looks kind of tacky IMO.

Also, one thing to watch out for... make sure you don't have an AC vent pointed right at your mic. It's easy to do on the A pillar.
