Brittle plastic is something I would expect from a 10+ year old vehicle, not one that is just a few years old. I just checked mine and it is still in like-new condition. I'd be wanting to know why the plastic became so brittle so fast.

The three main things I can think of that could cause the brittleness are: UV, chemicals, and heat. Unless you leave the hood up a lot, UV shouldn't be a problem. Heat shouldn't be a problem or other ppl would be reporting the same symptom. I'd check my antifreeze for contamination.
