Default Engine Build Components

I am seeing more & more threads pop up pertaining to engine build ideas, components, or just interest. This thread will be used to help bring together components on the market currently, future if acknowledge by the manufacture. Have to thank DIGItonium on starting this thread, link, to get the ball rolling on some general discussion. Below are components you may need as your quest for more power, performance, or other increases.

Website Sources & Catalogs:
Stroker Kit:

  • BC 4340 Sportsman or Pro Series (BC625+) connecting rods featuring ARP premium fasteners.
  • CP or JE aluminum forged pistons (any bore size, any compression ratio).
  • 5100 Series carbon steel alloy wrist pins. 9310 Series pin upgrade avail.
  • Ductile iron plasma top rings, tapered second ring, low tension oil rings.
  • Fully system balanced and ready to install.

Crankshaft:
4.5L Billet Crankshaft - Link
  • This new crank shaft is constructed from the same 4340 chromoly high-tensile steel alloy billet and hardened/tempered for a target tensile range of at least 930-1080 MPa (135,000-157,000 psi), incorporating 0.40% of carbon, proven to provide the highest degree of tensile, compression, and sheering strengths. The 87.0mm stroke affords a major advantage; it can be dropped into an unmodified (i.e. unsleeved) block with no need for longer sleeves (that have to be notched to preserve the oil jets), as is the case with the 90mm stroke crank. In this Hi-Rev iteration of the crank, two key improvements were made: lowered weight and, most notably, optimized oil passages.

Coating & Treatment:
Complete Coating Services - Link
  • CT-1 Bearing Coating - Dry film lubricant that is technically engineered to withstand extreme performance pressure. Using CT-1 coated engine bearings increases horsepower and efficiency, extends bearing life and protects your investment.
  • CT-2 Piston Top Coating - Ceramic "turbo coating" that reduces oil temperatures 15 to 30 degrees by containing heat in the combustion chamber and exhaust ports.
  • CT-3 Piston Skirts Coating - Dry film lubricant that retains oil while reducing friction and heat. The CT-3 Coating allows for the use of tighter clearances without scuffing, resulting in less blow-by increased horsepower and less wear on cylinder walls and piston rings.

Piston Surface Treatment - Link
  • This is a surface treatment, not a coating and unlike a coating, does not wear off. This involves firing microscopic particles at the surface of a part at extremely high speeds. The impact of the particles does several things. First, it generates a small amount of heat that permanently changes the surface of the part, making it harder and more durable. The second thing it does, is create tiny dimples in the surface and removes the microscopic ridges and imperfections in machined surfaces.

Spring & Retainer:
  • Spring & Retainer Upgrade - Stage 1 Valve train upgrade. Includes springs, Ti retainers: Link
  • Spring Valve train Upgrade - Stage 1 Valvetrain upgrade. Includes springs, Ti retainers, locators, and GTM High Performance stock size valves: Link
  • Spring 1.0MM Oversize Valve train Upgrade - GTM Valve train upgrade includes springs, Ti retainers, stem seals, intake and exhaust valves: Link
  • Spring 1.5MM Oversize Valve train Upgrade - GTM Valve train upgrade includes springs, Ti retainers, stem seals, intake and exhaust valves: Link
  • Spring 2.0MM Oversize Valve train Upgrade - GTM Valve train upgrade includes springs,Ti retainers, stem seals, intake and exhaust valves: Link

Studs, Pistons, and Gaskets:

Head Studs:
  • Main Stud Kit - Eliminates main cap walk and fretting, as well as protecting the threads in your engine block, every main stud exceeds the most stringent aerospace specifications, all kits come complete with hardened parallel-ground washers and aerospace quality nuts, manufactured from 8740 chrome moly steel, heat-treated in-house 200,000 psi tensile strength, and precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat to create a fastener that has threads 1000% stronger than others: Link
  • ARP 2000 11MM - Designed by ARP specifically for GTM these head studs are a direct replacement for your OEM head bolts and are made out of a superior ARP 2000 material. These head studs can be torqued up to 85 ft. lbs. of torque! No machining to the head or block is nessecary for installation: Link
  • ARP 2000 12MM - Designed by ARP specifically for GTM these head studs are similar to our 11mm head studs but have increased clamping load, also made out of high quality ARP 2000 material. These head studs can be torqued up to 95 ft. lbs. of torque: Link
  • ARP 2000 14MM - Designed by ARP specifically for GTM these head studs are the LARGEST head studs available for the VQ, if you are looking for the best clamping loads possible in a high horsepower application these are teh studs you want! Also made out of high quality ARP 2000 material. These head studs can be torqued up to 100 ft. lbs. of torque! Maching of the head and block is required for installation: Link
  • ARP L19 11MM - ARP's L19 material is a premium steel that is processed to deliver superior strength and fatigue properties. L19 is a very high strength material compared with 8740 (standard ARP headstuds) and is capable of delivering a clamp load at 260,000 psi. It is primarily used in short track and drag racing applications where inertia loads exceed the clamping capability of ARP2000. Like most high strength, quench and temper steels - L19 requires special care during manufacturing to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. This material is easily contaminated and subject to stress corrosion. It must be kept well-oiled and not exposed to moisture. These head studs are a direct replacement from your OEM head studs and require no further machinng of the block or heads: Link

Pistons:
  • CP Pistons - CP pistons are compatible with oversized valves and high lift camshafts. Part numbers ending in a “X” are on a X-style forging for additional strength, durability and weight reduction. The X-style has a full radius dome design, high performance rings and light weight wrist pins. CP Pistons represent the highest quality and is engineered for maximum power. Pistons can be ordered with gas ports, skirt coating, ceramic top coating, and stronger wrist pins if desired. Cometic head gaskets also available: Link
