I apologize for the crappy lighting in the picture. I had very little time yesterday in which to snap photos and thought the lighting was better at the time. Prior to taking the above picture I carefully washed the car and wiped it down with microfiber towels. Very little of the "dust" in the picture should be simple surface contaminant. I had previously tried to remove the defect via clay bar and dual action polisher which had no discernible effect. It should be noted that this was the first time I had ever clayed or polished a car and thus it is very possible I did not apply enough pressure and/or used too much lubricant. I will try again in the near future. Also, I have yet to try the "plastic bag trick" for determining embedded surface grit; I will give that a go tonight.
