In BC everyday is a rain day so you would'nt have that issue out there, plus they are probably smart enough to not use salt.
I honestly always thought Ontario just used sand and over here in Quebec they put salt almost every snow fall and especially if rain is forcasted. There is also gravel and sand everywhere.
