Just put it INSIDE the dash behind the head unit and check your reception. From personal experience the couple of times i have installed navis in my previous cars I got full reception even when I put the antenna inside of the dash just behind the head unit. That is exactly how I did mine, too. I have read a few different places as long as there isn't anything metal above it (magnetic) there won't be any problems. My accuracy is almost spot on.
