The first I always suggest with computers and other electronic gadgets is power everything down, wait 5-30 seconds, and power back up.
While you have the power off and waiting to boot, check all cables and connections.
If that doesn't fix it (and nobody else has an answer), call Tech Support.

Edit: Something that is fairly easy to check, but I doubt is the problem: Find the folder where the apps are and see if you can spot the updater (filename probably ends in ".exe"). If it's there, make a shortcut where ever you want.
