I test I feel that tests sidewall stiffness pretty well is a quick jerk of the steering wheel at a speed of about 50mph. Ideally, the car responds closest to instantaneously to any input, and any "lagging" or "slowness to respond" is indicative of a soft sidewall. When I had all season RE970AS all the way around on my car, I felt a hugely noticeable lag in input to my steering, compared to the stock RE050A's.

After switching the fronts to the S-04 PP's, the lag is reduced hugely. The tail of the car has a super slight lag, but it's the price I pay for requiring a higher treadwear.

That being said, my friend's car with RE-11 all the way around truly feels like he's driving on a set of roller coaster rails - it can't be beat.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this test!
