Default CD player

On the other Nissan vehicles with the same system (like the 2009 Murano I just purchased) the Bose with Navigation and Music Box only has a single CD. But anytime you play a CD, it can rip it to the hard drive (the Music Box) so you never have to actually insert that CD again. Moreover, the Music Box has an embedded GraceNotes database, which recognizes the CD and adds artist and song title information when it is ripped to the hard drive. (there is also a process for getting that information off the internet for new CDs not in the database - involves using a Compact Flash card) Pretty cool system.

The ripping occurs at faster than actually playing speed. I've found that by the time it is playing the 3rd track or so, it has finished ripping the entire CD.

Some Nissan and Infinity models have the new Bose system without the hard drive Navigation/Music Box. Those models do have a 6 CD changer. But if the hard drive is added, that deletes the 6 CD changer, and you only get the single CD slot. But who needs a CD changer if you can rip your CDs to the hard drive?

The CD drive can play CDs with MP3s or WMA files, but it will not copy those files to the hard drive. Probably so Nissan can avoid issues with the recording industry and their lawyers. It will only rip standard audio CDs.
