The cardboard and wrap will protect them. FedEx ships tires and wheels all the time. It's not a big deal, and if one happens to get damage (unlikely) they're insured and can be refinished to like-new condition. Have someone help you, wash the wheels and tires first, and work on a clean surface. Cardboard (moving boxes, you cut to cover whole side of tire) and shrink wrap $30 at Home Depot.
