i think you'd want to use e-tape as your masking tape on the very edge and use a sharp razor to cut while you lift/peel the e-tape back.
btw MAKE ABSOULTELY SURE you mask the rest of your car and dont park your other car in the garage while doing so. the overspray is NASTY!
