I don't know. Snow tires will get you home on a plowed road in a Z or stang, but AWD is godsend on un-plowed roads. I use to have a 2wd Jeep with snow tires and got stuck in 6" of snow in an unplowed parking lot. I'm just saying AWD and snow tires if you wish, would be far better. Since he has or will have a 4wd beater, it doesn't really matter now.
