Amsoil is not an ester based oil. It is a group IV PAO. Amsoil does use some esters in its' compressor oils but not in the line of auto oils to my knowledge. They do use many additives but do not think ester is one but if it is, they do not advertise it. There have been pros and cons to esters as with any products and one has to do the research to determine what is best for their vehicles. Amsoil may do just as good or better then Nissan ester being it is a great oil but we will have to wait for oil tests and for folks to put many miles on these engines to determine which oil is best. Amsoil does get more mileage from their oils than many others but will this also lessen the friction on the valve train? Again, too soon to tell. All I can add is do the research and look at bobistheoilguy.com and learn as much as possible about what you are putting in your car....Also, do not over look a great filter as many folks put expensive oil in a car then add an inferior filter due to trying to save a few bucks.
