I definitely prefer a manual to any paddle gearbox but what you need to consider with the GTR is that it's 480-530 bhp out of the box and can make 600+ with bolt-ons and a tune. The other issue is that it's a true awd system so you won't be getting much if any wheelspin off the line or on the lower gear upshifts. Therefore having a true dual clutch auto is definitely the way to go for max performance.

As a reference, most of the very high HP supras (and other cars approaching 1000 HP) that are built for the 1/4 usually have a 3 speed dog box or powerglide trans set-up. Anything else would be impossible to get off the line without a ton of spin and also shifting would be a nightmare. The AMS alpha 9 GTR ran 9.9 @ 141 on 93 octane and the Alpha 12 ran 9.1 @ 159 I believe. These are with the stock 6 speed DCT. So the GTR really is a supercar in every respect. Not to mention, if you happen to upgrade to monstrous HP levels and you get stuck in traffic you can always just flip it over to auto.

Anything over 400 HP that's rwd takes a lot of skill and knowledge of the car to drive effectively with a manual gearbox.
