Z1 Motorsports Adjustable Transmission Mount Coming SOON!

This is just a teaser of another Z1 Motorsports product that will be available very soon!
Following the successful release of both the Solid Aluminum and Urethane Motor Mounts, Z1 Motorsports is proud to announce both a Solid Aluminum and Urethane Transmission mount. Featuring a completely 6061 Aluminum Body, both the Solid Aluminum and Urethane models are lighter than their stock replacements. Just like the Z1 Urethane Motor mounts, the Z1 Transmission mount is both rebuildable and height adjustable.

Tested by both SFR Enterprises (Pirelli World Challenge) and Doran Enterprises (Grand-AM) Teams, the mounts have proven to withstand the harshest enviornments and abuse that the track can only deliever.

The Solid Aluminum mounts shave a total of 1.1 lbs off while the Urethane units weigh in at exactly 1 lb under stock weight.

A key feature to the Z1 Motorsports design is the ability to switch from either Solid or Urethane bushing materials without requiring the replacement of the entire mount. If the Urethane is too soft for your liking or you want to transition to a 100% rigid drivetrain setup, then simply swap our the bushings. In addtion, another distinguishing feature of the Z1 Urethane Transmission mount is the ability to decrease or increase the mount's stiffness. This is done be decreasing or increasing the pre-load placed on the Energy Suspension Urethane Bushings.

The 370Z has a notoriously soft transmission mount. The OEM mount can easily fail when exposed to heavy or extensive track abuse. The excess movement allowed in the driveline by the stock mount results in a loss of power delievered through to the back wheels.

As with any Semi-solid or Solid Aluminum mount, additional NVH sould be expected. The severity of the additional noise or vibration will depend on the model (Solid being the worst).

Prices will announced soon. Be sure to look for these at the 2012 Z Nationals!

Manual or AT?

Dustin@Z1 09-22-2012 09:16 AM

G37sHKS,
Very good question! This mount will fit both Manual and Auto models of the G37 however it will not fit the AWD's due to a different mount design being present.

Have you been able to measure the amount of NVH? Or at least compare it to another Urethane mount such as motor mounts?

Dustin@Z1 09-22-2012 12:51 PM

Zat_Zuma,
In terms physical data we have not. Just by going by the completely UNscientific "seat of the pants" unfortunately.

We have not compared our mounts to any competitors mounts unfortuantely.

The Urethane model will insulate the noise like the OEM bushings do. The only side affect of the Urethane is the fact that the material is fimer. This will transmite increased vibration into the chassis (driver's compartment).

The Solid models will increase ALL noise significantly. If you want the hardcore track car experience....then the solid is for you. Drivetrain noises, whines, etc. will become much more prevalent. The vibrations and unnoticable rattles will also become much more evident.

I do, I do! Maybe I will have you install them after Znats, since I plan on leaving the car there for other work anyways.

Awesome!

Saw these in person on Thursday. Very well made just like all z1 products.

Zat_Zuma 09-23-2012 11:21 AM

Of course all Z1 products are well made

I'm just thinking that with GTM's Urethane motor mounts and Z1's transmission mount, it isn't going to matter how the Urethane transmission mount NVH is ..... it's going to be noisy and vibrate a fair bit :p ......looking forward to it

Thanks for the answer and I'll put this product on my winter shopping list.

mprog 10-21-2012 06:32 PM

Dustin, what's the latest with these?

I just finished a day at Laguna Seca, and these would have been nice (I want the urethane ones!)

Dustin@Z1 10-22-2012 09:57 AM

We actually received a batch of these last week from the machine shop. Pricing is set at $198.00+S&H for the Urethane and $225+S&H for the Solid Aluminum model.

Again the models are interchangable. The only difference in the two models is the bushing material. If you choose to purchase the Solid or Urethane now and want to swap out to the other model, simply purchase the bushings and swap them out. We will have the bushings listed seperately for sell as well.

Ready for shipping! Check out Dustin's links above for more information on these items.

How much NVH should we expect for the urethane one? I installed a competitor's product And it was absurd how much the car shook! Compared to stock, how adjustable is it?

Thanks! I have high hopes:)

Dustin@Z1 10-24-2012 08:18 AM

With our design there are a few ways you can adjust the mount to fine tune it to your liking. The primary adjustment is for ride height. If you lower the engine mounts or need to get a little extra clearance around custom exhaust/intercooler piping, you can lower the transmission. This will tilt the engine backwards unless you have adjustable motor mounts.

The second form of adjustability only applies to the urethane model and does impact the firmness of the ride quality. If you disassemble the mount and add a spacing washer inside of the Upper Bushing (between the Lower Mount Plate and the Upper Body), you can release some of the pre-load on the bushings and lessen the firmness and allow for more movement of the mount. This will incrementally return the behavior of the mount to that closely resembling the OEM Transmission mount.

I will put together some test to illustrate the differences in NVH between a stock mount and the Z1 Urethane Transmission Mount.

Ordered your urethane model last week. Can't wait to get it on the car!

Dustin@Z1 10-28-2012 02:44 PM

Shamu,
Keep me posted with your thoughts and impressions. If you have any questions, give me a call or shoot me a PM.

BGTV8 10-28-2012 04:17 PM

Ordered via Web-Store ... looks like the ducks-guts !!!

mprog 10-30-2012 06:49 PM

I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think about the mounts. I've been wanting to tighten up the transmission feeling for a while.

I had a track day at Laguna Seca 2 weekends ago, and it was the first time I've noticed how much the thing moves around when the car is at the limit. Plus, I've wanted to get a little more feedback from the drivetrain, just not so much that the car feels like it's going to vibrate apart!

mprog 11-06-2012 11:34 PM

Hey Dustin, any good feedback on vibration with the urethane ones? Personal or otherwise?

diddy535 11-18-2012 12:40 AM

Sub'd, in for NVH results as well!

I apoligize for not posting up hard data as of yet. I have been working on a few different approaches to really quantify the differences between stock, the Z1 Urethane, Z1 Solid and others on the market....

We have had a number of customer's purchase these mounts already (many of which are here on the370Z.com). I have received some feedback, but I would like the individuals to post up here personally.

Overall here is the feedback recieved via email:

"From inside the cabin, It has a low frequency tone to it, makes the engine sound mean and growly!"

"It has this resonance as you accelerate through the rpm band. Seems like it really kicks up tonally at around 4k. At idle it's almost like stock, but as soon as you engage the clutch and move you hear and feel a significant difference over stock."

This customer has installed our mount onto a G37 Coupe. This is word for word his email to me with his thoughts of the mount.

diddy535 11-23-2012 03:30 PM

That plus being $30 off today, I'm going to go for it!

I think I just saw your order. Pulled the mount from the shelf myself. :tiphat:

Zat_Zuma 11-23-2012 05:53 PM

I thought about it and then the shipping costs to Canada ruined my mood :icon14:

Going to wait until I have a larger order.

diddy535 11-23-2012 06:17 PM

Thanks Dustin! Props to Z1, shipped an hour after I ordered!!

mprog 11-25-2012 09:39 PM

That feedback was from me. I just got back from a week away from "Casey", my G37S coupe.

I'm going to do a few drives and likely play with the adjustable firmness this week, and then I'll give you all a nice review. Stay tuned.

....and we're out of stock again.

We had a few come in from the machine shop and these sold quickly!

Spencer@Z1 02-08-2013 05:06 PM

Sorry for the delay guys, we have these back in stock once again!

gbrettin 06-03-2013 01:20 AM

I have the Z1 Urethane Transmission Mount and Urethane Motor Mounts installed on my 7AT and really like them. My car vibrates a little but I like to think of it as surging with power, in other words it's not bad at all.

Nice work Z1... You now have me eyeballing the Z1 headers.
