Z1 Oil Cooler
Any update on this issue? I had Z1 install a 25 row oil cooler and now have this whining noise also! What do I do??????
|
I am too lazy to try this but did talk to dustin at z1 about putting rubber grommets inbetween all of the bolts that mount the cooler to the car. He said they did some similar testing and it is still there. There isn't really anything you can do about it. It has to do with the pulsation of oil through the cooler.

So this is just a sound thing and no actual harm is being done to the oil pump? |
No harm done. I have driven mine for 14000 miles. Is yours thermostatically controlled?
|
Yes mine has it. Thx bro this makes feel a lot better
|
cool deal no prob.
|
I had forgotton about the whine noise of the past. Good to know it's still only a feature that we have to live with...
Will be installing my Z1 25 row cooler in a couple of weeks. |
Make sure you fab a cover plate when you put it on...just sayin....
|
^Got one made up , thanks. btw Z1 is shipping their oil coolers with the rubber mounts. At least from orders placed on black friday onward.
|
oh cool thanx for the info. I talked to Dustin and he said that even witht he rubber mounts that it still whines, on some cars it doesn't. It can get pretty frustrating though. Oh just for a tip, you might want to grind down the wall on a deep 1in socket so that when you torque the adapter to the oil filter bolt/housing that it grips well, and make sure its a 6 pt so you don't chance stripping the head. I think it calls for 40ft lbs.

Just a quick update on my Z1 25 row winning situation. I spoke to Jon at Z1 and he said that they will ship out a different line to me that will solve the problem. So I'm hoping it does, not too sure that I can get used to that sound. But this is what happens when we mod our cars.
|
Hopefully I have this "different line" that John (Z1) is referring to.... I guess it's car specific from what I read previously...that not all cars have the whine noise after oil cooler install.
Edit: just curious...when did you purchase your Z1 kit? |

Let me guess, you got the hoses with the shrinkwrap sleeving on them. Is that the different hoses that John was referencing to? If so I have the same and it still whines. I wish I could hit this on the head and solve it....frustrating
|
I'm not sure how different the lines are, I will post a pic as soon as i get them in the mail
|
oh ok cool thanx. I had gotten my kit from nissan north america for free and installed for free. By the time i bought the thermostatic adapter and failed at finding fittings, I called z1 and got the hoses out of their kit and spent as much money as it would have cost to get the kit you are getting. On the bright side I have the 34 row cooler.
|
Z1 has not changed their hoses, I just got off the phone with Spencer @ Z1, it's the same shrink wrap (black netting plastic protective) that they sell as an option with their kits. I bought this option ($30) when I ordered my kit. The truth is, he said to get some heater hose or water hose or low pressue fuel line hose and insulate it where ever it touches any body parts. He said they probably should add some to the kits for future sales. Dunno if it will happen thou. One note he made that was interesting is that it's not widespread and specific to no certain model or year but some cars are more noisey than others meaning it's just how they are mfg'd. So some may get the whine noise and some may not, but it's safe insurance to spend the extra $10 on the above mentioned insulatation hose and wrap it (sleeve it) when there is any contact with other parts of the car or the body of the car. I will be heading out this Sat for some hoses prior to my installation.

Ugghh...just glanced at the title of this thread "Stillen oil cooler" and the current topic is Z1 oil coolers. Maybe we should move this discussion over to the several Z1 oil cooler threads. At least then we can get some feedback from John and Dustin @Z1.
http://www.the370z.com/drivetrain-en...ooler-kit.html Maybe a moderator can move all post from # 82 onward over to the above Z1 thread? |

I agree!!!!! |
Thread was created and all posts moved to the right section since their Z1 related.
|
^Thanks Trips
Heater hose, 3/4 inner diameter, sliced and then wrapped with electrical tape did the job....no whine noise. Wrapped the section comiing across the front crash bar, then where it passes between the frame of the car. Right after the 1' white spacer. |
thread necro... just installed mine on my '13 touring w/ sport. noticed the whine. just came here to make sure it was a feature and not a defect. thanks for assuaging my fears.
