19's or 20's

Hey guys, I'm currently saving up to get new kicks for my Z. Hopefully by late December - January i'd have them :D

okay so check this, i'm gonna be running the Fast Intentions TDX CBE and i know that the mufflers sit a little close to the ground. I'm also gonna have the BOMEX front lip which ofcourse would make the car lower atleast for the front. I've been looking at sideview pics of my car (stock height) and the GAPS from the fenders (both rear & front) to the wheels are really a turn off. i WOULD lower the car but i dont wanna risk damaging my cbe which i dearly love lol. ofcourse i dont wanna mess up the BOMEX front lip as well!

I originally was gonna go with 19's but would u guys consider 20's for me?
Like I said i wanna close the gaps on the fenders but i dont want the car sitting too low that i'll damage my front lip & cbe cuz of speedbumps or potholes (i live in NJ/NY area & lotsa pot holes & f*cked up road)

I too will be running my car @ the 1/4 mile and i know that wheel size make a difference. Will choosing 20's hurt my time vs. going with 19's?
i really wanna hit atleast mid-high 12's when i have my bolt on set up complete. so yeah, will choosing 20's hurt my time vs. going with 19's?

will be waiting for responses..

You already know bro, 19's!

twandy's man... go big or go home

With the VS XX design, 20's will look better, the 19's will look too small. You can use 20's and still get really close or the same over all diameter as the sport wheels so it won't affect perfomance. Just my 2 cents PARE:tup:

I would say it depends a lot on the wheel and the look you're going for. Lou hit it on the head...with those beautiful VS XXs, go 20".

sideburnZ 09-25-2009 03:39 PM

it doesnt matter 19 or 20's with the work vsxx, those rims are heavy, but looks wise, its very nice and "pogi" hehe. if you're really looking more on performance i suggest you get the lighter VR G2's in 20's or any 1pc forged rims. VSXX was also my first choice, but i opted for the VR G2's instead for the weight savings. or when you track or drag your car, just put on your stock rims if you really want the VSXX...anyway goodluck on your purchase and project pare :)

get a set of ET streets for the track, because havings 20's wont help you get your goal.

the wheels are gorgeous tho

thanks for all the feedback fellahs. once the day gets closer to getting my rims, im gonna make my final decision! for now though, im thinking about eibach springs n slightly drop it with 19s. but i wanna see the rims in person and see if i'll be satisfied with 19s or 20s! if i go with 20s i'll see if i can come close or
match the diameter to the stock wheels. no other rims is a choice for me. these are my dream rims and im surely getting them for
my
dream car :) i guess i can always switch back to stock rims whenever i hit the 1/4 mile. thanks again everyone!

btw, shout out to all my filipino broskis! ;)

best believe i was :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: after that pic LOL!

Zerafian 09-27-2009 02:57 PM

For the VsXX's go with 19x 10 up front and 20x 11 in the back :D

edit: just read you want to track and drag it...go with a light weight set of 18's

dainedazz 09-27-2009 08:04 PM

i always wondered how the car would look with bigger rims in the back.
like Zerafian said, any thoughts on the 19's front & 20's on the back?

and as far as dragging, i'll just switch back to stock rims whenever i run it.
so basically now i just want a sexy set up for looks ;)

I'd be more worried about damaging your rims with the 20 or 25 profile tires that you will have to run on the back. If the roads are f'd up, for sure go with the 19's and ad a little side wall to the tire. Also, if you plan on dragging the car. A 305/30/19 is slightly smaller in overall diameter then the stock 275/35/19, This will effectively give you a slightly lower gear ratio giving you better acceleration and a wider footprint. And they are lighter, reducing rotational mass, again increasing performance. So there you have it, 3 reasons to go with the 19's if your looking for performance advantage. I think the only advantage the 20's will have would be for looks.

If your tracking it get 20's plain and simple.

Because youre going to want to buy a set of 17" steelie rears with some M/T ET street DRAGS for 300 bux anyway.

20's are nice but risky, when you run into the pothole from hell that flats your tire and bends your rim.
