How to strip Plastidip?
Just wanted to share my method ;)..
Dirty Wheel, doesn't really need to be washed to remove Plastidip. It's been baking from my brakes for months. https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...49590858_n.jpg AutoZone $20 WD-40 (this is enough for 20 wheels). I buy in bulk ;). https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...40898788_n.jpg Spray WD-40 All over it, 3 coats, 5 minutes between each coat. https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...96072028_n.jpg After 5 Minutes scrub it with a soft cloth or a Wheel Glove (AutoZone $5) https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...35168775_n.jpg It works better if you have a pressure washer, I DONT... https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...63348235_n.jpg Now one more Coat of WD40 and wide it all off with a microfiber. https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...78642716_n.jpg Tada :) https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...93186128_n.jpg https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...82108876_n.jpg You can obviously try to peel the Plastidip before WD40 to try to get the most of it off but as many of you know, after Plastidip is baked on-to the wheel, it's not coming off as one peace. |
Good thing the EPA wasn't driving by you would get a ticket for spraying WD40 down the sewer. Solid way to take it off though.

start by peeling one corner... Then use a pressure washer on the rest. That's what i did to remove off my old grill and worked like a charm.
*ninja edit* havent tried this on a baked-on wheel.. |
Also, you can buy a gallon or pint of XYLENE and rub it on. IT does the same thing just faster, easier, and less of a mess in my opinion.
Also, if you have imperfections, bad texture, etc.. XYLENE works wonders. I have a few youtube videos going over how to use XYLENE to fix tears, rips, etc.. Nice writeup though. |
Xylene should take off the finish of the wheel though
